Mobo Triton with Unique Steering System
Who says you can’t step outside for some exercise and have fun at the same time? If you’re not afraid of breaking out of the two-wheeled mold there are a lot of different avenues that open up to you. Last summer I came across some folks out for a ride on three-wheeled bicycles on more than one occasion, and it looked like they were having an absolute blast. I had the opportunity to stop and talk to one of them and he assured me it was the best exercise he’d ever had. I assumed he would be having a hard time keeping up with his fellow riders who were pumping along on two wheels, but he told me he didn’t have much difficulty at all.
The other thing that may makes you hesitate in purchasing a unique three-wheeled bicycle like the Mobo Triton is the price tag, but that shouldn’t be a major deterrent either. This fun three-wheeled bicycle will set you back about $400, which isn’t too bad for a great new way to enjoy a bike ride.
If you’re looking for the handlebars on the Triton you’re going to be a little disappointed. This bike doesn’t have any handlebars – instead it uses two steering sticks to control the movement of the bike. I’m sure it will take some getting used to, but it’s bound to be a lot of fun as well. Each wheel is controlled individually by the steering stick on its side, and that means you can have a lot more control of how quickly the bike reacts to your movements. It also allows you to keep your arms in a much more natural position, reducing stress and strain.
It’s like Sitting in Your Living Room
As much as I like to ride a bike I’ve always found the seats on most bicycles a little uncomfortable; because of that I have to take the occasional day off even in the middle of summer. A great thing about this three-wheeled bike is that it has a nice ergonomic recumbent seat that’s designed with your comfort in mind. This doesn’t mean you won’t get a great workout and that you won’t feel some morning aches and pains from a little exercise, but it will reduce the stress on your back and allow you to avoid those rest days.
A Low Center of Gravity
If you’re one of those people that avoids riding a bike because you don’t trust your own sense of balance, this three-wheeled Mobo contraption could be the alternative you’re looking for. With three wheels you don’t have to worry about losing your balance any time soon, and its low center of gravity means you’re always in close contact with the ground anyway. This really is a great alternative for people who just aren’t comfortable with the traditional two-wheeled bicycle.
Mix It up
At the beginning of this article I mentioned a guy I had spoken with who owned one of these three-wheeled bicycles – I also asked him if he ever got tired of riding such a strange bicycle, and did he have a yearning for an old-fashioned two-wheeled model? He assured me he still owned one and used it quite frequently, but he just liked to mix things up once in a while. I think that would be the best way to use one of these bikes – as an alternative and not a replacement. The best way to stay interested in any exercise program is to mix it up once in a while, and if you own one of these bikes along with a traditional one you certainly can do that.
Safety Isn’t a Problem
One thing that concerns me about such a low-profile three-wheeled bike is the safety factor. It seems to me that being that low to the ground would make it difficult for cars and other traffic on the road to see you, but that isn’t necessarily the case. The three-wheeled bikes I’ve seen have come equipped with a large, prominent flag that alerts the traffic around you to your presence. This model also comes equipped with that type of flag, and I think it would probably do the job just fine.
Safety isn’t the only potential issue that’s crossed my mind with one of these types of bikes. The other thing that I was worried about when I started looking into these was how appropriate they would be for taller people, but as it turns out they are completely adjustable. Between the back two wheels and the front wheel there’s an adjustable bar that can be shortened or lengthened depending on your height. It’s a simple solution and it works.
I’d like to Give It a Try
I’m not sure that I’ll ever own one of these three-wheeled bicycles myself, but I know for sure I’d love to try one out – it looks like a lot of fun. Personally, I’m probably going to look at a rental option to see if I can try one of these out first. After that – who knows? Maybe one day I’ll take the plunge.
